The Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has called on the Kaduna State government and other donor agencies to increase their support in the elimination of malaria in the state.

The state chairman of ACOMIN, Diji Obadiah Haruna, made the call at a one-day meeting on “Dissemination of Findings from the National Consultation on the Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) Concept Note Development and Grant Implementation in the State.”

He said, “Our government is trying but we still need malaria commodities in Kaduna State like Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs), Artemisinin -based Combination Therapies (ACTs) and others to ensure malaria is eliminated.

“Nigeria still has a long way to go to achieve control of malaria due to certain challenges confronting malaria intervention.”

Haruna urged the government to employ more health workers and also provide enough security at the healthcare services to ensure safety of workers and patients.

He further appealed to the residents of the state and Nigerians at large to sleep under the treated mosquito nets given to them.

On his part, the Kaduna State programme officer, ACOMIN, Ogidi Nicodemus, said the essence of the GC7 is to engage with the community stakeholders, religious leaders and the media to get their inputs as development of the new grant concept is ongoing.

According to him, since 2019 ACOMIN has done a lot in eradication of malaria in Kaduna.

“As part of our strategies in eradicating malaria in the state, we have engaged with the community representatives, religious leaders and government stakeholders all on sensitisation and prevention measures,” he added.
