On receipt of the report on Sunday, 21st May, 2023, the commissioner of police, CP Wale Abass immediately ordered the commander of the team to investigate and ensure that the erring officers are identified and dealt with.

In line with this directive, the command monitoring unit invited the victim who identified the officers who extorted from him the sum of N500,000, and the money was immediately returned to the victim.

The police image maker also disclosed that CP Abass has “since directed that internal disciplinary action be initiated immediately, and at the end of their orderly room trial, members of the public will be intimated on the outcome.”

The police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the command condemned the action of the policemen, adding that it would not be tolerated.

“It is not in the character of the Command to trample on the rights of citizens or resort to extortion, just as the police boss assured members of the public that the officers concerned will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the extant laws as stipulated in the Police Act and regulations to serve as a deterrent to others,” he added.

Meanwhile, a rights activist in the state, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan has condemned the action of the policemen saying that police officers in the state need training and retraining.
