Governor-Mai-Mala-Buni-of-Yobe-State (1)

Yobe State government has taken steps to repair the dilapidated 35-kilometre international road from Gaidam to Maine Soro in Niger Republic.

The state government’s decision to repair the road was based on an appeal by residents of Gaidam local government area to Governor Mai Mala Buni to rehabilitate the highway.

In response to the residents’ plea, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon Yariman Lawan Mahmoud, said the government would soon commence work on the road.

He said the government had approved funds for the rehabilitation of the road.

Yarima said, “We are waiting for the government to release the funds and as soon as the money is released, work would commence without further delay.”

Yarima commended Governor Buni for his leadership style in the past four years and urged the people of the state to support him to do more for the people.

The residents had said they were compelled to cry out to the state government because the road had become a death trap.

The residents said the road was constructed by Bukar Abba Ibrahim administration and that it had gone bad thereby causing its users avoidable hardship.

The emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Saleh, added a voice to the ordeal of the people when he said several appeals made to the past governments in the state to rehabilitate the road were not heeded.

He said Gaidam is the second largest council where nationals of Barkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger Republic used to visit and trade.
