Abia govt partners maternity homes, others To Rehabilitate 20 Rescued Pregnant Baby Factory Inmates

Wife of Abia State governor, Mrs Precilia Otti has said the government would partner maternity homes, churches and other stakeholders to rehabilitate 20 girls rescued from a baby factory in the state.

Mrs Otti stated this while visiting the girls at Madonna College of Health Technology, Olokoro, in Umuahia South local government area of the state where they are being temporarily sheltered.

The first lady expressed sadness and disappointment over the incident which she described as heartbreaking, saying it is unfortunate it was being carried out in the state.

Earlier, the provost of the college, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru said they were brought on the directive of the government and would be adequately catered for.

Anokwuru, who said necessary scanning and test had been conducted on them, added that one of them have been safely delivered of her baby.

The inmates were among 22 girls rescued on Monday when soldiers from the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia raided the factory at Umunkpei Nvosi in Isiala-Ngwa local government.

Others rescued at the factory allegedly operated by an indigene of the area and a notorious human trafficker were two infant boy and girl probably waiting for clients.
