Benue State government has debunked rumours making the rounds that it has inaugurated a Fulani security outfit to return the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes describing it as handiwork of mischief makers who thrive on falsehood to destroy and tarnish the image of the new administration.

The state deputy governor, Dr Sam Ode, who refuted the allegation during a press conference in Makurdi explained that “the attempt by some mischievous elements to link Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration to the establishment of a supposed Fulani security is a deliberate plot to discredit and portray the government that is starting on a sound note in bad light.”

According to him, “It is mischievous for anyone who is not even the spokesperson for the Government to issue media statement aim at blackmailing the Revd. Fr Alia led administration which is making frantic efforts to restore security so as to return IDPs to their ancestral homes.

“I want to let you know that the Government of Benue State has at no time okayed the launched of any security outfit including the so acclaimed Fulani security outfit.”

He said, “I the deputy governor of Benue State want to tell the Nigerians and the Benue people categorically that I did not authorise anyone to represent me or the State Government at any Fulani security summit or commissioning of any security outfit.

“The good people of Benue State should ignore the plot by some mischievous elements to drag the Benue State Government led by Revd. Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia into a non-existent controversy.”
