National Boundary Commission (NBC) has urged Abia and Akwa Ibom states governments to demonstrate the political will to enforce resolutions on boundary disputes affecting their states.

The director-general of the commission, Adamu Adaji, made the appeal in Abuja yesterday, during a joint meeting of officials (JMO) on Abia/Akwa Ibom Inter-state Boundary.

The meeting was to review the status of work on the boundary and also to discuss the way forward towards the completion of outstanding works on the boundary.

Adaji expressed confidence that with the commitment of the new administration, all actions on the boundary will receive priority attention so that all disagreements are resolved peacefully.

“Permit me to also use this opportunity to solicit your kind understanding and continued support in all the programmes by ensuring the adequate participation of the two States Boundary Committees with the required logistics and funds to enable their effective participation,” he said.

Also speaking, Senator Akon Etim Eyakenyi, the deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State said the lingering disputes which date back to the 80s are largely due to human nature and lack of political will on the part of the authorities.

“If we employ the truth and have the courage to confront the facts, these disputes will be resolved easily. God never intended the truth to be a mystery and unresolvable puzzle. It is human beings who complicate issues for themselves,” she added.

She said the present administration in Akwa Ibom State under the leadership of Pastor Umo Eno is committed to ensuring the resolution of these disputes.

On the other hand, the deputy governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, said the state is looking forward to sincere resolutions and a work plan that will bring solutions to all the disputes.
