Permanent secretary in the Borno State Ministry of Works, Engr Goni Lawan, has assured road users and motorists plying Maiduguri-Kano Road that the flyover under construction on the Borno Express Roundabout will be completed in October this year.

Lawan, who said road users were cooperating with workers on the site, added that his team had devised alternative routes to ease traffic on the road while work is ongoing.

He said this yesterday in an interview with journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The permanent secretary said at the initial stage, his team faced a design challenge which has now been resolved.

“The duration of the project as per the contract agreement is six months. So, far we have spent about three months and hopefully by the six months’ period we are expected to complete the project,” the permanent secretary said.

On pedestrians’ congestion at Borno’s first flyover at the Customs Roundabout, Lawan said the ministry decided to construct an underpass there so that people can pass underneath, adding that the work would be through in a few weeks’ time and appealed to residents and road users to be patient.

Also, the principal resident engineer for the project, Engr Kori Shettima, said the construction of the flyover is to decongest traffic on the road which links Maiduguri to other parts of the country.

Shettima said,” From the initial design, we changed to a new design of the flyover which is a trumpet interchange.  In this trumpet interchange, all vehicles plying down from the town to the airport will have a clear run of vehicles. “
