Bayelsa Guber:  G5 Governors Make Campaign Council
  • August 1, 2023
  • Unity Times

Amidst the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), the immediate former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom; former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; and former governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and others have all made the Bayelsa State campaign council list of the party.

The development comes as the plot intensifies to expel Wike, who was nominated as a minister-designate by President Bola Tinubu.

In the statement signed by the PDP National Public Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, late Monday night,  sighted by The Punch, the National Working Committee of the party released the membership of the Bayelsa State National Campaign Council for the upcoming election in the state.

Meanwhile, loyalists of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar began moves to expel Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was learned that the moves to expel Wike from the party gathered momentum last Saturday, days after President Bola Tinubu nominated him a minister.

According to TheCable, a meeting hosted by Atiku and attended by elders and stakeholders of the party who are his loyalists discussed ways to cut down Wike’s power extensively.

The meeting, which lasted over two hours, was held at the residence of a chieftain of the PDP and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, in Maitama, Abuja.

It was gathered that the meeting had in attendance former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, the suspended party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and other party leaders.

Most of the attendees rooted for Wike’s expulsion, but some feared that it might further divide the PDP and lead to rationalisation.
