Court sentences man to 2ys jail For Impersonating Tribunal Secretary

A Minna Magistrate Court has sentenced one Idris Baba Hassan to two years in jail for impersonating the secretary to the Niger State National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, Barrister Usman Mohammed Jankoli.

The Niger State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) had earlier arrested him and later charged him to the court.

Baba Hassan of Kusfa from Suleja area in Niger State was arrested by the operatives of the DSS attached to the tribunal.

He was arrested after calling and sending text messages to litigants before the tribunal demanding for gratification.

The principal staff officer for legal service of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Niger State Abdulmalik Sani charged him before the Minna Chief Magistrate Court 1.   

He was charged on a count charge “of acting on pecuniary purposes” that contravened section 132 Penal Code Law of Niger State.

Sani told the court that the defendant was arrested while parading himself as the secretary of the Niger State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Minna demanding gratification from various litigants that have cases before the tribunal.

When the charge was read to the defendant by the presiding Magistrate Adamu Abubakar he pleaded guilty to the charge and was immediately convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment and given an option of a N100,000 fine.
