The Kebbi State government has commenced vaccination against anthrax disease in nine local government areas of the state.

Governor Nasir Idris, who flagged off the exercise yesterday at Ruggar Malam Yaro village in the Dandi local government area, said Kebbi State remained the second-largest state with a large number of animals in the country, hence the need to brace up in providing medicine for vaccination against anthrax.

Idris, who was represented by the commissioner for animal health, husbandry, and fisheries, Kabiru Usman-Alaramma, said the vaccination would be carried out in nine neighbouring councils with other states in the North West zone of the country.

He named the councils as Shanga, Ngaski, Zuru, Sakaba, Bagudo, Suru, Dandi, Arewa and Augie.

While urging cattle rearers to come en masse with their animals for vaccination against the disease, the governor said very soon other vaccinations against strange animal diseases would be conducted.

The governor used the event to enumerate some achievements of his administration in education, health, agriculture, road construction, and the welfare of the people, among others.

The permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr. Ahmed Umar-Ambursa, commended the governor for approving the request of the ministry to purchase drugs for vaccination against anthrax in the state.
