Kano guber: NNPP denies plot to occupy Supreme Court, others
  • December 9, 2023
  • Unity Times

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the purported plot by the party and Kwankwasiya Movement to occupy the Supreme Court and foreign missions in Nigeria as a figment of the imagination of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Democracy and its sponsors, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement signed by NNPP’s acting national chairman, Abba Kawu Ali, and made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Friday night in Abuja, described the purported occupation as laughable and shows the desperation with which the APC in Kano will go to seize power at all costs.

According to the statement, APC has resorted to blackmail, intimidation, and falsehood to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public, the judiciary, and the security agencies because it knows that it has no case at the Supreme Court. The NNPP, however, reiterated its confidence in the judiciary to dispense justice in the case involving Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, during the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

“The New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP has dismissed the purported plot by the party and Kwankwasiya Movement to occupy the Supreme Court and foreign missions as a figment of the fertile imagination of the ill-conceived Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Democracy and its sponsors, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“The allegations by the so-called coalition are laughable and show the extent to which the opposition in Kano State will go to fabricate lies in its desperation to seize power by all means.

“APC knows that it has no case at the Supreme Court and has resorted to blackmail, intimidation, and falsehood to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public, the judiciary, and security agencies with a view to stealing the mandate the good people of Kano State freely gave to the New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP.

“NNPP has confidence in the nation’s judiciary as the temple of Justice and bastion of hope for aggrieved citizens which, on Thursday 7th December 2023, dismissed Suit No FHC/AWK/CS/150/2023 NNPP & 5 ORS VS RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO and 10 ORS at the Federal High Court Awka Anambra State instituted by expelled members of the party allied with and sponsored by the APC, claiming it had opted out of the MOU NNPP signed with the Kwankwasiya Movement and The National Movement TNM, Allegation of Corruption, Suspension/ Expulsion of Party Leaders. Justice N. O Dingba dismissed the suit for lacking in merit.

“Irked by the Federal High Court judgment of the 7th December 2023, APC has intensified its sponsoring of expelled Agbo Major’s libelous advertisements in national newspapers and an unknown coalition to disparage our great Party with a fallacious assumption of stealing a match against the party at the Apex Court.

“As a law-abiding political party, NNPP is resolute and strongly determined to protect and defend its mandate across the country and will resist any attempt to subvert the will of the people.”

In a related development, the party has also denied a coalition with any political party. According to the party, the said publication “is false and far from the truth.”

It added that since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, no official of the NNPP has ever sat down with any political party, either individually or collectively, to discuss the issue of forming a coalition now or in the nearest future.
