Prof. Wushishi made this disclosure at the commissioning of vehicles and other projects executed by the council in Minna, Niger State, where he declared that the vehicles will ensure NECO exams are conducted without delay or disruption.

The other projects include a newly constructed block of classrooms for the senior secondary section of the NECO Staff School, an established and equipped NECO Data and Scanning Centre, and a newly-built and equipped NECO driver’s pool, among others.

Prof. Wushishi explained that NECO’s drive to overcome the challenges of inadequate state offices has led to the ongoing construction of three new state offices in Gombe, Katsina, and Kogi states, which are currently at 70 per cent completion.

The NECO registrar, who also disclosed that the council has not received any appropriation for 15 years, noted that the National Assembly had appropriated for the construction of seven additional state offices in Nasarawa, Rivers, Lagos, Sokoto, Taraba, Jigawa and Abia.

According to him: “The groundbreaking ceremony of the seven offices will soon be performed by the Minister of Education. This marks a significant milestone for NECO to be included in the capital budget after a long time. We are grateful to the Minister of Education, for his guidance and encouragement has driven our progress and we are truly grateful for his commitment to the council’s mission.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, represented by Permanent Secretary David Andrew Adejo, said the purchase of the 70 brand-new vehicles was a step in the right direction, adding that the vehicles will play a crucial role in the success of NECO’s examinations in the country.

He noted: ” It will help prevent leakages in the NECO exams. Since education is the bedrock of any society, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration will do its best to strengthen the council with provisions being made in the 2024 budget.”
