Sen. Ohuabunwa, who was inaugurated yesterday, July 4, 2024, along with others by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, in Abuja, will serve as the Pro-Chancellor of the Seventeenth Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt. The office was formerly held by Senator Andrew Uchendu as the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the Sixteenth Governing Council of the University in 2021.

The Unity Times, through its Managing Director, Uchechukwu Okoroafor, describes the appointment of the Senator by President Tinubu as a step in the right direction, considering the personality and antecedents of Ohuabunwa. The media company believes that the appointment will reposition and place the university among the top-sought universities in Nigeria and Africa.

Senator Ohuabunwa holds an HND and BTech in Applied Biology and Microbiology from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, a PGD and Msc in Public Administration and Human Resources Management from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and a doctorate degree in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a former Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, having served in the 4th and 5th National Assembly as a Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State.
