In a major boost to Nigeria’s aviation sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a 30 percent waiver on outstanding statutory debts owed by domestic airlines.

The relief package, announced by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, is aimed at easing financial strain caused by soaring aviation fuel costs and preventing potential disruption to airline operations.

The waiver covers key obligations, including charges owed to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

In a parallel development, Nigeria recorded a historic milestone in aviation safety, achieving a 91.45 percent compliance score in an audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization—well above global and regional averages.

The achievement is expected to strengthen investor confidence and position Nigeria as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
