The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched an investigation into the Director-General of the Energy Commission over allegations involving ₦701 billion reportedly linked to campaign financing activities.

Sources familiar with the probe say investigators are examining financial transactions, contract allocations and possible misuse of public resources connected to political funding networks.

The anti-graft agency has yet to release full details of the investigation, but insiders say the case could become one of the largest financial probes in recent years.

The development comes amid growing public concern over campaign financing transparency and the influence of state resources in Nigerian politics.

Analysts believe the investigation could have far-reaching political implications depending on the outcome of the probe.
