The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman following his conviction in a massive corruption case involving an alleged ₦33 billion fraud.

The arrest comes after intense public attention surrounding his sentencing and uncertainty over his whereabouts in recent days.

Anti-corruption authorities accuse the former minister of financial misconduct linked to power sector contracts and public funds during his tenure in office.

The case has become one of the most closely watched corruption trials in Nigeria’s recent political history, reigniting national conversations about accountability, transparency, and abuse of public office.

Legal analysts say the development sends a strong signal regarding the government’s anti-corruption posture, especially amid growing public demands for stronger enforcement against politically exposed persons.

Critics, however, continue to question whether anti-graft efforts are being applied consistently across political divides.

The EFCC stated that due legal procedures would be followed as the agency proceeds with enforcement of the court judgment. Many Nigerians say the case underscores the urgent need for reforms in the power sector, where billions of naira have been spent over decades with limited improvement in electricity supply.
