Government Warns Against Fake News and Ethno-Religious Tension

The Presidency has dismissed viral claims suggesting that President Bola Tinubu plans to rename Nigeria as the “United States of Nigeria” or abolish Sharia law in northern states.

Officials described the reports as dangerous misinformation deliberately designed to inflame ethnic and religious tensions.

The government urged citizens to rely on verified information while warning that fake news poses serious threats to national stability.

Political observers note that misinformation campaigns often intensify during periods of political transition and heightened electoral competition.
