The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Saturday met with the Rivers State Elders Council in Port Harcourt in what observers describe as part of ongoing efforts to manage political tensions in the state.
The meeting brought together key figures, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.

Photographs from the closed-door gathering were released on Sunday morning by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to the FCT Minister.
Sharing the images on his X handle, Olayinka portrayed the meeting as a sign of solidarity. He wrote: “FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other leaders in a meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday. The political family is fully united.”
Although no official statement was issued on the outcome, the presence of Wike, Fubara, and influential elders underlines the importance of maintaining cohesion within the state’s fragile political structure. The meeting comes against the backdrop of recent political frictions in Rivers, where rival camps have often struggled to demonstrate unity.
