Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan, will on March 1 inaugurate the National Assembly Christian Chapel in Abuja.

This is contained in a statement co-signed by the President of Christian Legislators Fellowship, Sen. Binus Yaroe (PDP-Adamawa), and the Secretary, Rep. Bamidele Salam (PDP-Osun), on Wednesday.

Yaroe said that former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon and the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, would attend the inauguration and dedication of the 750-capacity chapel.

He said that other dignitaries expected at the dedication include the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh; the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Oke; and Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, among others.

”The dedication of the chapel represents the beginning of a new chapter in strengthening spiritual fellowship among Christian legislators and staff.

”The event, which is expected to attract eminent Nigerians from across the country, will mark a significant milestone for the Christian community within the National Assembly.

”The ceremony will bring together prominent Christian leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries in a moment of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection,” he said.

The lawmaker recalled that the non-denominational chapel project was initiated in May 2019 during the leadership of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

According to him, it was conceived as a dedicated place of worship, fellowship, and prayer for Christian lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly.

He said that the chapel would serve as a spiritual hub aimed at fostering unity, moral reflection, and faith-based support among members of the legislative community. (NAN)
