Tinubu seeks Senate approval for $6bn external loans

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve fresh external loans totaling $6 billion to support Nigeria’s budget and infrastructure projects.

In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the president requested $5 billion from Abu Dhabi Bank for budget financing.

He also sought approval for an additional $1 billion facility from London’s Citi Bank to fund the rehabilitation of key ports, including those in Lagos.

The Senate has referred the request to its Committee on Local and Foreign Debts for urgent consideration.
