Nigeria Moves to Evacuate Citizens as Xenophobia Fears Rise in South Africa

Nigeria has begun plans to evacuate at least 130 citizens from South Africa following renewed fears of xenophobic violence.

Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Ojukwu confirmed that registrations for evacuation are increasing, particularly from Durban.

“This number is expected to rise,” she said, stressing that Nigerian lives and businesses must be protected. The move is precautionary, as tensions and threats against foreign nationals resurface—echoing past waves of violence that strained relations between both countries.
