Nigeria’s political atmosphere is heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections as major political figures and parties intensify consultations, alliances, and strategic positioning.

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as its preferred sole presidential candidate, reigniting national debate over a possible political comeback.

Meanwhile, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has completed screening processes with the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), fueling speculation about a new opposition alliance ahead of the polls.

At the same time, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed reports suggesting he is pursuing a vice-presidential slot, insisting that his political future remains focused on national development and ideological politics.

Political observers say the emerging alignments reflect growing dissatisfaction across opposition blocs and increasing efforts to build a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party.

Across the country, consultations, defections, and internal party negotiations are already reshaping Nigeria’s political map nearly two years before the elections.

Analysts warn that the coming months may witness intensified political maneuvering, especially as economic hardship, insecurity, and governance debates dominate public discourse.
