Joint Security Offensive Frees Kidnap Victims as Military Intensifies Crackdown Across Lagos and Kogi Forests

By Unity Times Security Desk

Nigeria’s security agencies have recorded another significant operational breakthrough after coordinated offensives involving the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force led to the rescue of several abducted victims and the arrest of suspected criminal collaborators across multiple states.

The operations targeted criminal hideouts in forests around Epe in Lagos State and remote communities in Kogi State where kidnappers and arms traffickers were believed to be operating.

Among those rescued were individuals abducted during recent attacks in Oyo State, including some victims connected to the widely publicised Oriire school kidnapping.

Security sources disclosed that several foreign nationals suspected of supporting criminal logistics were also taken into custody for further investigation.

Multi-Agency Coordination

Officials described the operations as part of an expanding intelligence-driven strategy integrating military surveillance, police tactical units and DSS intelligence capabilities.

Security analysts have repeatedly argued that inter-agency cooperation is essential because criminal networks increasingly operate across state boundaries.

Continuing Security Challenges

Despite the successful rescues, authorities acknowledge that kidnapping remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing security threats.

Criminal groups continue exploiting forests, difficult terrain and weak rural infrastructure to establish operational bases.

Security experts therefore stress that tactical victories must be complemented by long-term investments in rural policing, surveillance technology, border management and community intelligence.

Public Confidence

The latest rescue operations have renewed optimism among affected communities, although many Nigerians continue to demand stronger preventive measures rather than repeated rescue missions after abductions occur.
